The musical group "Giares" invites us again this summer to a musical flashback to the beginning of the Greek urban song, rebetiko. Historians and scholars divide the rebetiko song into 3 basic periods (Smyrnaean - Classical period - Era of mass acceptance), a separation which follows the historical events of modern Greece.
During the night, the band Giares will play songs from all 3 above periods of rebetiko, while at the same time it will present aspects of its history giving us important information about who were the main composers, organists, lyricists and how rebetiko has influence contemporary composers.
"Giares" (walking slow oriental song related to amane) started in 2014 only with Daniel on guitar and Angelos on bouzouki, who forced by their love for rebetiko and traditional music, began to study and research the roots of rebetiko. How far back in history, from where it has been influenced, the words that exist in the rebetiko verse, which areas of Greece were key areas of the spread of this music. In 2020, George's guitar and Artemis's voice were added to the band, thus expanding their repertoire of landmark songs in rebetiko history.
